surrounded, yet so alone

Loneliness engulfs you like darkness on a cold night
when the cold wind chills you to the bone in the lack of light
You look around in search of a companion
but soon tears begin to blur your vision.
At times you're surrounded by so many people
and still wouldn't be missed if you fell down a tunnel
At other times you just sit by yourself
staring at all the pictures on the shelf
There are so many people you could talk to
but none that you think would understand you
Even if you did decide to give your feelings away,
you're not sure of what you'd  be able to say.
So you bottle it up till you can take no more
and then cry it out till your eyes are sore
Wishing someone would come to your rescue
but there's no one around to hug you but you
You retreat to your own special place
a tree top, a hillock, or a high terrace
And sit with the wind caressing your face
drying the tears, and leaving no trace
Leaving nothing to see, everything to feel
So true, yet so unreal

desert sands

They're always moving in your mind
Memories of a special kind
Like swirling winds and the red hot sun
They sting the eyes of anyone

With no rain to bring them down
Without a way to send them out
They only fade as the desert sands
Slowly slip through your hands

Soft and fine as they may be
Beyond them you cannot see
They cloud your eyes in a cloudless land
Such is the power of the desert sand

As twilight falls, the heat abates
The stars rush forth from their heavenly gates
The stars shine bright in the desert night
Making stinging sands shine silvery bright

The desert moon gazes at the desert sands
That bend time itself in their timeless hands
As she reposes calm at imperial height
They shroud her too, out of sight

shutter bug

He tries to fit things in a frame
That contains only the best
He sees only what he wants to see
And blocks out all the rest

He lives life peeping through a hole
Too timid to face the fact
He tries to shut out reality
He wears a mask, puts on an act

His mind's scrambled with a myriad of thoughts
And there's no more room for memories
So he shifts his focus to petty things
Like flowers and trees in the summer breeze

Someday he needs to open his eyes
And zoom out of his safe space
Distinguish the truth from lies
And get back in life's big race

the downward drop

When you can't face failure, after working hard
And you try to climb up, but slip to the start
You begin to doubt if you can make it at all
And start lying to the world that you don't mind the fall

A hole in the Wall

She tries to hide it all,
to appear stony and strong
and feels a sense of pride
when she holds back her cries.
Yet she feels disappointment
when she's labelled cold hearted,
sadness that no-one can see
past her translucent shield.
Does no-one care to take a peek
into her world where she is weak
where she longs to be protected
instead of being neglected?
She builds her wall as a test
to distinguish from the rest
those who truly care for her
rather than pretending to bother.
Now almost trapped in her own trap
she waits, looking through the gap,
through the hole in her protective wall,
for someone to break it- stones, bricks, et all.

staggering, stumbling, still staying strong

You know you'r gonna lose someone
and there's nothing you can do about it,
nothing you can do to make it go away
but you try your best anyway.
It hurts so much to look at her
but you cant afford to stay apart;
Making new memories everyday,
not knowing when her screaming heart
may suddenly cause a deafening silence,
not knowing whether to let her know
how much it's killing you too
or to be the one to show
that she's really stronger than she thinks
and assure her that it will pass
when you do not know for sure
if she even stands a chance.
You cannot tell her you understand
because you know you don't.
I guess the best you can do
is be her friend
until the very end.
